SUMMARY:Warmth and Fire Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In times of great change\, how can the support of a group help us shift from isolation and overwhelm to clarity and motivation to act? Leading change in times of heightened intensity and complexity requires stronger communities of support. \n\n\n\nThis workshop gives you experiences of how peer support can enable people to move through change and find wise action. We explore the creative power that arises when we focus on understanding. Instead of trying to convince or offer help\, we offer side-by-side “accompaniment” to allow a person to find their own answers. See how the warmth of community support can light a creative fire. \n\n\n\n\nWhen we are listened to\, it creates us\, makes us unfold and expand. Ideas actually begin to grow within us and come to life. – Brenda Ueland \n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is well suited to people working in social change\, facilitators\, artists/creators\, and community builders\, essentially anyone interested in creatively contributing to the betterment of the world.  \n\n\n\nYou will learn: \n\n\n\n\nSpecific practices that create a field of support to “accompany” a person who feels stuck or unsure how to navigate. You’ll see how movement and insights naturally emerge\n\n\n\nHow to tap into the collective wisdom of a group\, seeing a situation from more perspectives and recognizing more possibilities for how to proceed\n\n\n\nThe skill of ‘resonant listening’ – how to listen so people feel understood; and the process of constellations\, a powerful group approach to finding wise action\n\n\n\n\nYou’ll experience how a group can shift from being strangers to having a sense of warmth and cooperation in a few hours. \n\n\n\n\nMy vision is that we create spaces of kinship\, alongside our work\, in communities\, with our friends. Spaces where we can bring our big decisions…our moments of feeling stuck…and our creative aspirations. DESCRIPTION:We invited artists and creators of all kinds to use their artistic expression—whether in painting\, photography\, sculpture\, poetry\, music\, performance and other forms—to explore these questions and spark meaningful conversations: \n\n\n\n\nWhat are inspiring visions for humanity\, rooted in the truth of the inherent nobility and dignity of all people?\n\n\n\nHow can humanity recognize its true identity as being rich\, noble\, rational\, and loving?\n\n\n\nWhat kinds of communities\, neighborhoods\, and workplaces can we grow based on the bedrock truth of the inherent nobility of each person?\n\n\n\nHow does a focus on nobility relate to justice and help us build communities that treat all people fairly?\n\n\n\nIt may be easy to see someone you agree with as noble\, how can you see this quality in someone you disagree with?\n\n\n\nHow can we recognize the honorable qualities (and potential) in every person and remove the veils of assumptions that nobility correlates with wealth or social status?\n\n\n\n\nJoin us on Saturday\, June 14th at 6:30 PM to see their response. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Call\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“May [your] actions serve as a reminder to a beleaguered and weary humanity of its high destiny and its inherent nobility.” \n—The Universal House of Justice\, from a message dated 28 December 2010\n\n\n\nMany of the structures that support our community and societal health are deteriorating\, while at the same time\, new structures and movements are rising up\, to transcend patterns of corruption and division to grow something healthier. In turbulent times for people and the earth\, how can we find a sense of purpose and an inspiring vision that will unite humanity? \n\n\n\nSee the nobility in all people \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“O Son of Spirit!  Noble have I created thee\, yet thou hast abased thyself. Rise then unto that for which thou wast created.” \n—Bahá’u’lláh\, Hidden Words\n\n\n\nTo be noble is to have honorable moral qualities in conduct and character. When we talk of ‘inherent nobility’ this means seeing people as having innate worth\, dignity\, and greatness… whether visible in their current conduct or existing as dormant potential that can be called forth. \n\n\n\nWhen we are influenced by prejudice\, distrust\, apathy or desire to control others\, our ability to honor the inherent human dignity of every person gets clouded. How do we see beyond this to the innate goodness of each person and align how we treat each other with that? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“Persevere\, therefore\, with diligence and steadfastness along this path of endeavour. As you do so\, strive to perceive the nobility in every human being—rich or poor\, man or woman\, old or young\, city dweller or villager\, worker or employer\, irrespective of ethnicity or religion.” \n—The Universal House of Justice\, from a message dated 28 July 2008\n\n\n\nOne view is that society is that society’s resources are scarce and humans have to compete with each other. The patterns of ‘in groups’ and ‘out groups’ stir up bias and prejudice. We identify so much with our group and we ignore or diminish the needs of other groups. Another view is that humans are all one\, that our true identity is not our group\, but the spirit. \n\n\n\nRecognizing Our Own Nobility \n\n\n\nWhen we see through the eyes of each person being noble\, it challenges the internalized notion that we are not enough and challenges those who hold a view of superiority to widen their lens to see others more fully. We can make this a habit. \n\n\n\n\n“It is possible to so adjust one’s self to the practice of nobility that its atmosphere surrounds and colours all our acts. When these acts are habitually and conscientiously adjusted to noble standards with no thought of the words that might herald them then nobility becomes the accent of life. Since graduating from Dean College with her B.A. as a dancer major\, she has traveled throughout the states and abroad to Canada\, London\, Barcelona and Japan to immerse herself in various dance genres\, the main ones being contemporary\, street styles and heels. Jeryl is honored to be associate director of the CYDP Dance Company at Deborah Mason Performing Arts Center in Somerville. She is the founder and artistic director of UnEarths\, a multi-disciplinary dance company that creates dance on video and live performance work.
