SUMMARY:‘Abdu'l-Bahá’s Visit to Green Acre\, the “Acca of the Western World” | Dr. Anne Perry & Dr. Robert Stockman
DESCRIPTION:Green Acre and the Bahá’í Publishing Trust welcome you to a special edition of Conversations of the Heart honoring ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s historic visit to Green Acre in August of 1912\, with two special authors. \n\n\n\nAnne Gordon Perry\, primary author of Green Acre on the Piscataqua\, will share a perspective on the relationship of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá to Sarah Farmer\, Green Acre’s founder\, and how He confirmed her vision. \n\n\n\nRobert Stockman\, author of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in America\, will focus on the Master’s visit in August 1912\, the people He met\, and the talks He gave\, with background about His trip to North America and the notable events of His sojourn at Dublin\, New Hampshire and the Boston area. We will particularly look at how ‘Abdu’l-Bahá “accompanied” people by asking them to accompany Him on His travels. The results were transformative in the lives of dozens of early American Bahá’ís. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnne Gordon Perry has a PhD in Aesthetic Studies and teaches at the Art Institute of Dallas and through the Wilmette Institute. Her various arts include writing\, drama\, glass fusion\, dance\, and filmmaking. The primary author and editor of Green Acre on the Piscataqua\, she has also published books for young readers\, including Unseen Witness: Sarah Farmer & the Portsmouth Peace Treaty and an article about Sarah Farmer for BahaiTeachings called “A Woman’s Place: At the Peace Table.” With her husband she is currently working on a film about ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in France. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobert H. Stockman obtained his Master’s degree and doctorate in Religious Studies from Harvard University\, where he specialized in history of religion in the United States. He is the author of several books\, including The Bahá’í Faith in America\, volumes 1 and 2\, which cover Bahá’í events in the United States from 1892 to 1900 and 1901 to 1912 respectively; Thornton Chase: The First American Bahá’í; ‘Abdu’l-Bahá in America\, a volume that reviews ‘Abdu’l-Bahá’s 8-month journey across North America; He has lectured on Bahá’í topics across the United States and in Europe\, Russia\, Ukraine\, and Israel\, and is a frequent contributor to Bahá’í panels at the American Academy of Religion. He was an instructor of religious studies at DePaul University in Chicago 1990-2012 and currently teaches religious studies at Indiana University South Bend. He has been Director of the Wilmette Institute\, the Bahá’í online educational agency\, since 2000. He has served on the editorial boards of the Bahá’í Encyclopedia Project\, Journal of Bahá’í Studies\, and World Order magazine. He lives with his wife and two children in South Bend\, Indiana.
