Explore the role that poetry can play in the creation of a society described in the title of Green Acre’s current art show: Just, Diverse, United: The Destiny of America. Listen as featured poets Barbara Talley, Andréana Elise Lefton, and Radiance Talley share how they use poetry in service to humanity, followed by break out sessions in which we’ll engage in guided and meaningful conversation about the creation of this long-awaited society.
Barbara Talley has been training adult audiences for over 40 years. She is President of BST/The Poet Speaks, which is entering its 34th year of operation. She is a Speaker, Facilitator, Author of six books (and counting), and Workshop Leader offering human resource services to both public and private industry. Participants describe her presentations as exceptional, deep, magical, transformational, scientific yet practical, interactive, fun, informative, and life changing.
She has six children and has been a member of the Bahá’í Faith for almost 50 years. Barbara has dedicated the majority of her time the past few years to uplifting and restoring dignity to people of African descent. She was the visionary for the Pupil of the Eye ARISE 2019/2020, Black and Native Unity, and Diaspora Dialogue Annual Conferences, Black Fridays Deprogramming Anti-Blackness series, and Foundation Hall University (www.worldembracing.net) which is a daily study space focused on the most vital and challenging issue, racial prejudice.
Andréana Elise Lefton is a poet, essayist, educator, and community builder. She is the author of Circle the Bones with Shining and Songs of Deliverance: Healing from Abuse, Addiction, and Trafficking (both forthcoming), shedding light on women’s suffering and soulwork. She is currently serving as Director of Community Engagement for Bahaiteachings.org.
Her work focuses on healing from trauma and embodying justice through freeing the voice. She teaches creative writing in jails and recovery programs, and collaborates with artists and educators of all backgrounds, creating spaces of refuge for the human spirit.
Radiance Talley is a staff writer at BahaiTeachings.org and a corporate communications associate at One Planet Group. She graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in communication. In her free time, she enjoys co-hosting workshops with her mother about what is needed for racial healing in the U.S., and writing and reciting her poetry at various venues. She has written two books of original poetry and hopes to publish them soon. Feel free to follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
