DESCRIPTION:Part of the Migration art theme\, this immersive dance performance created and directed by Djeff Jean-Philippe\, Founder and Artistic Director of OneLove and The Expressive Movement dance company introduces the exploration and wonder of the relationship between Earth (in its many forms)\, human interaction and migration. It delves into what it is like to build a relationship with the ground we walk on\, the things we pass by\, and the resources we rely on\, all through a human-centric lens. This experience goes beyond mere observation; it encourages you to engage\, interact\, and connect with the Earth. Originally hailing from Montreal\, Quebec\, he lived in northern Massachusetts around Boston and Lowell until he recently moved back to Montreal for recent projects. DJeff’s profound passion for dance blossomed through extensive training under distinguished figures in street-dance culture\, including Jamar Hopkins and Brian “Footwork” Green. His expertise spans a wide range of dance forms\, encompassing hip-hop\, dancehall\, breaking\, Chicago footwork\, house\, popping\, locking\, whacking\, voguing\, Afro-house\, Afrobeat\, Krump\, and various Latin dances. Notably\, he has also received training in ballet and contemporary dance under Judith Koeckhoven. Djeff’s dynamic and high-energy classes are dedicated to upholding fundamental principles while integrating contemporary and modern elements\, exemplified by his coined term “Temphopical\,” signifying the fusion of contemporary hip-hop. Additionally\, Jeff is a pioneering researcher developing a novel Afro-Latin dance form called Kimpada\, which merges Kizomba\, Kompa\, Bachata\, and Zouk. As the founder and director of The Expressive Movement\, a company focusing on hip-hop\, contemporary\, and modern dance\, DJeff led tours across the East Coast\, Canada\, and internationally from 2018 to 2019. Beyond his artistic endeavors\, Jeff is a dedicated educator and advocate for social causes. His work extends to fostering innovative approaches to human interaction through dance\, both within and beyond the realm of performing arts. \n\n\n\nDJeff is a dedicated and accomplished artist who recently finished his MFA degree at Bennington College\, with publication of his first book: The Relationship As Dance. His passion for dance and holistic wellness has led him to share his knowledge and expertise with the world. Through his extensive experience in the performing arts\, including appearances on TV shows\, commercials\, musicals\, as well as collaborations and working alongside renowned artists such as Joyner Lucas and Mr. Vegas to name a few\, DJeff has made a significant impact in the world of art and Afro-diasporic lineage. \n\n\n\nIn addition to his artistic pursuits\, DJeff has recently embraced an exhilarating new side passion into one of his main artistic focuses: Music-Engineer/DJing. As a talented dancer and musician\, he possesses a profound love and intuitive understanding of music\, enabling him to craft transformative spaces where people can embark on journeys of movement and emotion or simply be fully present. This is why he proudly goes by the name DJ Chef Jeff\, embodying the practice of juxtaposition and essence of Caribbean meals.” He masterfully blends\, and breaks down sounds using a mic\, a mix\, a track\, or even a simple beat\, as he “cooks” and creates a feeling that’ll leave a captivating taste in the body\, ears and mouth for the audiences that experience his practice. In a remarkably short time\, DJeff has already left his musical mark in vibrant locations like San Francisco\, Oakland\, Boston\, France\, and Brazil. He is swiftly establishing himself as a nationally and internationally renowned DJ\, lighting up events such as dance battles\, DJ Boil Rooms\, Chill rooms\, and dynamic DJ sessions. \n\n\n\nDJeff is committed to improving communities by curating artistic events of many forms\, building programs\, and promoting racial equity and justice\, as well as human consciousness. He has served as a keynote speaker at numerous seminars and conferences\, addressing important topics such as “Bridge The Racial Gap” and “The Divine Masculine & Feminine.” \n\n\n\nDjeff’s dedication to guiding and mentoring the health and wellness of all individuals is evident in his establishment of “Our Space\,” a holistic and multicultural arts center that he opened in 2021.
