A Bahá’í “fireside” is an informal gathering of friends and neighbors, usually hosted in a private home, to learn about a variety of topics of general interest that also contribute to a better understanding of some aspect of the Bahá’í Faith and its teachings. All are welcome, and participants are encouraged to spread the word and invite others interested in new ideas and meaningful conversation.
This particular fireside usually takes place in the evening of the third Friday of the month. Prior to the pandemic, it regularly brought 10 to 20 people to the Gregorys’ home in North Hampton, New Hampshire for an evening of fellowship including a buffet supper and a 30–40-minute presentation, followed by discussion. Since April 2020, we have been meeting virtually using the Zoom platform. We expect to continue in that format until it is safe to resume in-person gatherings.
Although the temporary shift to a virtual format has facilitated the participation of guests from other parts of the country and the world, who are most welcome, this recurring event has retained its local focus, aiming to serve primarily residents of the New Hampshire Seacoast and Southern Maine. Every effort is made to ensure that online conversations are infused with the same courtesy and mutual respect that would characterize inter-personal relations in a private home.
