Logistical Notes
We look forward to welcoming you! Please confirm your arrival and departure plans with our Administrative Assistant, Bonnie, at least 3 days before you arrive.
If you’re feeling unwell before your time of service, let us know at greenacre@usbnc.org so we can make any needed adjustments.
When you arrive, stop by Registration to pick up your keys, room assignment, and schedule — we’ll be happy to greet you in person.
Volunteer Housing
We’re delighted to welcome you to Green Acre and want you to feel at home during your stay. While we do our best to provide private rooms, we can’t always guarantee one. You may be paired with another volunteer as a roommate, and all volunteer bathrooms are shared.
Green Acre will provide full bedding, towels, and hand soap. You’re welcome to bring your own shampoo, body wash, and any other personal toiletries to make your stay comfortable.
We also recommend bringing a reusable water bottle so you can stay refreshed and hydrated throughout your time here.
Uniform
We want you to feel comfortable and ready for a day of service at Green Acre. Green Acre shirts are available for your use. Wearing one is optional, but keep in mind that clothing may get stained during service.
For all volunteers:
- No tank tops or sleeveless shirts
- Closed-toe shoes suitable for walking, bending, and squatting (you’ll be on your feet most of the day)
- Comfortable pants at least knee-length
- Minimal jewelry recommended
For food service:
-
- Please wear a hat or keep your hair tied back.
Before Leaving Green Acre
Thank you for sharing your time and service with us — a few final steps will help us prepare for the next guests:
- Return your keys to the Main Office or your immediate supervisor.
- Place used sheets and towels in the hallway bins. (Volunteers in Rogers Cottage can simply leave them outside their rooms.)
- Neatly fold your blanket and bedspread, and place them at the end of your bed, just as they were when you arrived.
- Gather all trash and set your bin outside your room.
- Return used Green Acre shirts to the blue bin in the shirt closet near the SFI lobby bathrooms.
We truly appreciate your care in leaving your space tidy — it makes a big difference for the next volunteer.
