Welcome to Hospitality

Thank you so much for coming to serve at Green Acre. We look forward to serving alongside you for the duration of your service.

Below is a brief overview of a day in the life of hospitality staff.

Your service will consist of a lot of janitorial work and housekeeping tasks. Tasks include cleaning bathrooms, gathering trash, sweeping, mopping, restocking amenities, vacuuming, folding laundry, etc. While this may not seem very exciting, it is vital to the physical beauty of Green Acre. This complements the spiritual energy and power provided by Abdu’l-Baha’s visit in 1912, and the social beauty generated by all guests and staff during our time together.

Our daily service begins at 7 am sharp in the Kelsey Center and the shift ends around 4 pm. However, everyone is expected to be available in the evening to help tend to drink spills, program set-up alterations, overflowing toilets, excess trash, etc. This also encourages us to all participate during the evening sessions.

Serve with a full heart and remember that we stand on sacred ground.

Sample Schedule (varies by program)

  • Kelsey Center Cleaning (7:00 am)
  • Breakfast
  • Devotions
    • We will either have devotions as a team in the Sarah Farmer lobby or join the guests for devotions. It varies depending on the nature of the session
  • Sarah Farmer Inn Cleaning
    • We are responsible for cleaning all public bathrooms in the building. Split into teams and clean each floor and meet in the Lobby area to clean that space as well.
  • Ole Bull Lobby
    • One person can go clean the first-floor bathroom in Ole Bull and gather the trash in the conference room
  • Roger’s Cottage and Fellowship House
    • Split into two teams and clean the communal bathrooms
  • Kelsey Center Check
    • Gather all trash and check the bathrooms to make sure there are enough amenities (toilet paper, soap, paper towels)
  • Laundry
    • Folding laundry in Harry Randall or the Staff Apartments basement
  • Main Office
    • Clean bathrooms, sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, gather trash and recycling, clean windows
  • Lunch (12:30)
  • SFI Lobby
    • Clean bathrooms, restock, trash, sweep/mop, vacuuming, dusting, windows
  • Rice Cottage
    • Bathrooms, restock, sweeping, mopping dusting, vacuuming, trash, table cleaning
  • Library
    • Bathrooms, restock, sweeping, mopping dusting, vacuuming, trash, table cleaning
  • Trash/Recycling
    • A couple of us will transfer all the trash and recycling into the Green Acre truck and take it to the dumpster.
