I am a Baha’i visual artist working and living in both Pittsburgh, PA and Atlanta GA. I am a multi-media artist, painting in acrylic, oil and alcohol inks, and constructing 3D works using fabric & natural materials, as well as hand-painting ceramics. My vision is to use the arts to engage with my community, inviting others to share their own creative talents and benefit from artistic expression. Through this outward focus, our community is being strengthened. In my own art practice I am learning to lean into intuition and trust in the process. I often begin with an inspired idea from nature, after pondering the metaphorical nature of it, or when I notice patterns. As I work, I seek to remain open minded and observant, aware of my internal state and feeling, so that something meaningful might emerge. When I use this method and then step back to observe & reflect, I often gain a new understanding. Perhaps due to my Baha’i lens, most of what I see highlights the oneness in all things and the relationships between seemingly dichotomous things (eg. nature and human beings, light and dark, fractals, etc.). While creative work can be mysterious-even to the artist, I am always grateful to walk the path because it has helped me understand, heal, and learn more about my inner depths.
