Fiber art has been a part of my life since my grandmother taught me to quilt as a young girl. My interest in the craft continued into middle school home economics class, and then as an adult at the University of New Hampshire art department. At that institution a traditional craftsmanship style of weaving was taught. When our family decided to move back to my home state of Ohio, I continued my passion and enrolled at Kent State University this time exploring fiber as fine art. I was introduced to felt making and it became my primary medium. Now, living in central Ohio, the trees and native plants of the wooded landscape speak of regeneration and renewal, an often-contemplated theme in these tumultuous times. In an effort to support sustainability and our shared responsibility to safeguard our home, planet earth, the choice of renewable fiber suits my sensibilities. Fiber art calls us to touch, smell and awaken an old ancient memory, and as I look out and walk the woods, I see texture and color which fills my consciousness and serves as a healing solace to my soul.
